ThyssenKrupp Wins Contract For Thermal Power Plant In India

German firm ThyssenKrupp has won a contract worth approximately INR2.75bn from Coastal Energen, a power generation company of Coal and Oil Group, to install coal handling plant at the 1,200MW Mutiara thermal power plant near Tuticorin in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu.

The Tuticorin project, which has a provision to expand upto 3,600MW, is expected to commence operations by the middle of 2012, and has achieved financial closure with SBI and 16 other banks.

Power generated by the plant will be supplied to the State Electricity Board and to the private sector. A power purchase agreement (PPA) has been reached with Tata Power.

Harbin Power Engineering of China will supply equipment for the plant. Gammon India will execute civil works worth approximately INR4.5bn. Work on the plant has commenced, and Coal and Oil Group plans to install another power plant at the existing site.
