Dynegy Inc. (Dynegy), a power generation firm based in Houston, has started generating power at its unit 2 and unit 6 Moss Landing natural-gas-fired power stations located in California, the California ISO stated in a report. The power generation capacity at Unit 2 is 510 megawatts (MW) and Unit 6 is 739 MW. Due to unplanned reasons the unit 2 and unit 6 were closed on May 10, 2009 and May 21, 2009 respectively. The company’s other stations were available for operation.

The Moss Landing station located close to Salinas, in Monterey County, roughly 90 miles south of San Francisco can generate 2,498 MW.

The power station contains combined-cycle units 1 and 2 that started service in 2002 with 510 MW capacity and units 6 and 7 with 739 MW power generating capacity that entered service in 1967 and 1968 respectively. Each of the 510 MW combined cycle units consist of one 180 MW steam turbine and two 165 MW gas turbines.

Dynegy of Houston markets energy products in the US and owns and runs more than 18,000 MW of generating capacity.
